North Carolina is giving up a well
kept secret from the larger Chicago style steppers community with
the emergence of R&B artist Tyrand. I received some sample
songs and there were a couple I felt were right in that "Steppers
Groove".
After talking with the promoter that sent me the music, we agreed to
test the waters with one of the songs on Facebook without mentioning
the name of the song or the artist. Overwhelmingly the steppers said
they would dance to the song and that's what's most important to the
people in our community.
The name of the song was "Take It Slow" from his debut CD titled
"The Love Lounge". The song has the elements of an old skool smooth
steppers groove.
From his Bio; "Out of the deep soulful sounds of North Carolina,
comes a truly authentic R&B artist by the name of Tyrand. At
the tender age of four, Tyrand began to wow his church
congregation with an innocent yet robust tone when he joined the
choir. He became an instant solo favorite and the notoriety sparked
his desire to one day perform professionally. When Tyrand
entered J.F WEBB High School in Oxford, NC, he furthered honed his
craft in the school chorus and also began to write his own lyrics.
After graduation, he continued his quest to sing professionally and
met a producer at a local studio by the name of Dark-Keys Tyrand
and Dark-Keys formed a perfect duo. Tyrand, 23, is
working on his debut album entitled The Love Lounge. Tyrand has also performed live for quite some time and has
had the pleasure to share the stage with the likes of Charlie
Wilson, Chaka Khan, Frankie Beverly & Maze,
Raheem DeVaughn, Monica, Genuwine, Chrisette
Michele and a fan favorite, Musiq Soulchild. The late,
great Gerald Levert was also interested in recording some of
Tyrand's songs before his untimely death. The producer,
9th Wonder, whom has worked with the likes of Jay-Z,
Ludacris, and Mary J. Blige, stated that the very first
time he heard Tyrand's music, he paused, and said this is the music
I've been waiting to hear, and you want to hear on the radio... this
is what R&B is."
