4th Annual Stepper's Family Day Cook-Out

Written by Lisa Luckett on August 6, 2015.

What a spectacular event! The 4th Annual 'World's Largest Stepper's Family Day Cook-Out. We Steppers took over the entire Green Lake Forest Preserve in Calumet City, Illinois Sunday August 2nd from 10 a.m. - dusk. As far as the eyes could see were picnic tables, grills, family, friends and of course Steppers.

The aroma of barbecue was in full effect. You name it they had it. Hot dogs, polish, ribs, chicken, sides, desserts, some even had liquor and playing cards. People came from near and far to relish in the festivities. If you missed it, DON'T DO IT AGAIN!

Stepping organizations were well represented, from Los Angeles, Detroit, Gary, Chicago, Milwaukee, Minneapolis and many, many more. Stepping organizations from across the United States showed up and showed out. Guest DJ's also showed up to show out. The music was fantastic. The dance floor was jammed packed from beginning to end. Those fellows sure know how to "rock the house."

The entertainment was phenomenal. BLT gave us comedy, Young James Brown gave us the "Godfather of Soul", the Ike & Tina Turner Revue turned it out, T.L. Williams was exceptional as usual and he also introduced us to his new single. Magnum Force shut it down. They were remarkable. They also have a new single out, "Private Party". I think it's going to be a hit with the Steppers.

There was absolutely something for everyone, kids, House heads, Line Dancers, Old Skoolers, New Skoolers and the oh so infamous Soul Train Line. Some just came to chill and enjoy the festivities. Some came just to hang out to see what the hoopla was all about. If you were there, you had to have a good time. I had a ball.

Everyone acted liked the civilized human beings we are. No fighting, no gunfire, no riffraff. Don't tell me we can't come together and have a good time without drama. This event was a free event to all. It was absolutely a gorgeous day for a cook-out. Even though the storms hit all around us, we were spared.

I'm looking for staff from Chicago, the East coast (Atlanta, Central Florida, North Carolina), the mid west beyond & including Chicago (Detroit), the west and  on the west coast (San Francisco/Oakland and Seattle). If you take photos -- that's great but it's not necessary (perhaps you know someone who takes photos at the set -- even with a camera phone) we are looking to keep the country informed about the world of steppin in your area.  Shoot me an email!
