Do The Right Thing

All of this controversy and drama about the Masters category must come to a head and soon. Darlinda Russell posted a video of Darlinda and Taboo (Calvin Jarrett) winning the first Worlds Largest in 1989. The contest was sponsored by V-103.

For those of you who don't know Pete Frazier was denying Taboo as a participant because he never won a Worlds Largest. Jannice Robertson was saying since her partner died she should have her choice of partners but Pete said the rules only permitted prior winners. I checked the authenticity of the contest with Legend Kim Bowie.

Rules are rules and since Taboo won what was the first WLSC he must be added to the list of Masters allowed to Participate in the contest.

The question is how did Pete forget a contest he placed third in was the WLSC? After all this was before Budweiser did sponsorship for the contest and if we are using the sponsorship as the deciding factor as to what qualifies winners as masters then any winners after Bud left sponsorship aren't qualified either -- right?

If you watch the end of the video you can see Darlinda and Taboo receiving certificates which have V-103 logos on them enabling them to be paid by the sponsor of the contest which was the radio station. This can be confirmed by any of the winners of the contest.

Once again, if this is going to be representative of the contest and the stepping communities history these two must be allowed to compete. After all it's in the rules. If it doesn't happen it will be just one more reason for the majority of steppers in Chicago to stay away from the contest.

It's time to make things right.

SteppersUSA is  looking for people who can tell the story to the nation...
I'm looking for staff from Chicago, the East coast (Atlanta, Central Florida, North Carolina), the mid west beyond & including Chicago (Detroit), the west and  on the west coast (San Francisco/Oakland and Seattle). If you take photos -- that's great but it's not necessary (perhaps you know someone who takes photos at the set -- even with a camera phone) we are looking to keep the country informed about the world of steppin in your area.  Shoot me an email!
