While we hurt, We're moving...

Until we hear the reason from the coroner we don't
know what caused Whitney Houston's death. People are jumping
to conclusions when they shouldn't.
The only thing we know for sure is one more
beautiful voice is now silenced.
I'm not going to go at any length on this issue because I think the
best way to honor Whitney Houston's legacy is to
listen to her music. Last night there was a posting frenzy in
the
Steppers music group of her songs. I posted the Steppers song of
the day along with the full length
Biography video to watch.
What I will say is the dance needs music and without it we're just
tapping our toes on the ground. It's the anchor which the dance
works off of. Whitney Houston's music made us move physically and
emotionally. As the song says "Only the good die young."
This has been the Pre-Valentines weekend and there were quite a few
Valentines Day dances and parties and there are a few more before
the weekend is over. So be sure to check the events calendar. This
is the time knowledge of Walking would come into play.
I was listening to someone at some point in time as they were
explaining stepping to someone who was a dancer from (I think it
was) the East coast. While describing the dance they also mentioned
steppers are competitive by nature, probably more than almost any
dance you'll come across.

I think that's true to some extent but once again I
feel everything is dependent on the circle of people you run with. I
honestly can't say all of the steppers I know are or indicate they
ever want to be competitive. In fact the majority of the people I
know or have at least had the pleasure of meeting (formally or
informally) are not into competition on the dance floor.
Many of the people I know who once were very competitive say they
"grew out of it" they've nothing more to prove but when necessary
they can still "throw down." The thing to remember is for every
person who wants to play that competitive game there are probably 25
or 30 others who could care less and just want to have fun and
dance.
It's part of the basis this country was...

At what point in time did it become "evil" to make
money via stepping?
I can understand when an instructor is not really teaching the dance
and giving people a load of BS. They don't deserve to get paid at
all. I can understand when a promoter or a party planner promises
something and delivers nothing (or at least much less than was
suggested.)
If you look at the arts, people pay for drawn or painted art every
day. Folks pay for photographs and musicians as well as singers get
paid to perform. The dancers you see on stage and screen as well as
television get paid. So once again I ask:
At what point in time did it become "evil" to make money via
stepping?
You have the constant complaining by local promoters and party
planners about how everyone doesn't want to pay their way into their
event but for fear of being ostracized by the "insiders" in the
steppers community they still let them into their events.
Then we have those who are planning the events but charge too low of
a price to get into their events and they end up hurting the entire
genre so when real promoters do hit the steppers community and
charge what the rest of the world considers "normal prices" the
steppers balk at the "high prices" and you know what happens after
that.
The most successful events charge much more than the regular monthly
or quarterly events. People not only pay to get in but they travel
to get to these events too. Give value to the event and watch what
happens... and you can't add value when you admit people for free or
at a very low price. This just de-values the entire market. Continued
