You live on one side of town and the set you go to
is on another side of town. There's a perfectly good set down the
block from where you stay but you still travel to the set you've
been going to for a while now.
In these days of high gas prices and everything being more expensive
why would you choose to go to a set that literally costs you time
and money?
When it comes down to it in any activity it's the unique experience
only you feel that makes a memory good or not so good or even
indifferent.
It's all how you individually react to that experience and how you
let external stimuli influence that reaction (or not). Sometimes
it's the people at that set that helps you define that experience.
It still comes down to when you are going to let someone else
influence your decisions. One example I can readily think of is one
of a dance partner. You can be the best stepper in the world but if
your partner doesn't have it together you can't really call the
experience good.
You may find some good things in your partner's dancing ability
which may lead you to want to try another dance at a later date but
generally I don't see you going back for more right away. When you
do go back to dance with this partner again you are keeping an eye
out for those same things that made a bad dance for you the last
time. Am I right?
We only have one opportunity to make a first impression but after
that first time you still give that chance for "one more taste" in
that dance. Many steppers dance with everyone at the sets and
parties I go to. Each time they dance it's a chance for a new first
impression (or at least one more taste). More Below
At most of these sets you really have to work at
turning these dancers down to not get a dance. Many of these dancers
travelled past perfectly good sets to dance with you... are you
telling me you're going to turn them down? Many times emotion
overrules logic doesn't it?
You may have made a decision based on emotion when you made the
decision to travel across town to go to that set. That's OK who
needs someone else's permission to go to a particular set? Logic
would dictate to at least occasionally check out that set near your
home but who would ever accuse steppers with acting out based on
logic?
Even Dorothy in the Wizard of OZ at the end of the story clicked her
ruby slippers three times and repeated the truth... There's no place
like home! There's no place like home! There's no place like home!
You never know you might just find the dance experience you want
right under your nose.
There's a new steppers mix by DJ Big Shay from
Chicago online right now (upper right side of the page).
Today's song of the day is "You're The One I Need"

Let's see a quick show of hands... who knows what
targeted advertising is? That's what I thought; many of you've heard
the words but don't know how it applies to our community.
Have you ever received an invitation to a weekly steppers class or
event in a city across the country (or at least in a location
you're not even remotely near?) Sure you have, we all have on
Facebook.
The person doing the advertisement has "friended" every
stepper they could find on the social site and now they are going to
advertise with the hope some of it sticks and people will
attend their set or class.
That's targeted advertising in a nutshell (even though the person
doing the advertising only targeted "all steppers")... had the
marketer taken the time to create a list of people in geographic
proximity to the event or class they would be able to tailor
their event description to that exact market.
Of course many of these would-be marketers have no idea of where you
are mainly because it would take effort to break down their friend
lists by location. Facebook knows where you are, Google knows where
you are but not the steppers marketer... they just throw the info
out there.
Facebook and Google use a lot of advanced tools to see where you are
so they can advertise directly to you and amongst the tools they use
is geotracking. It's a tool where they trace your computers
internet address to where it connects to the web. This tells them
what city you're in and that gives them an idea where you're at so
they can advertise products and services for your city to you..
