People call the Labor Day holiday weekend the end of summer and as the tradition plays out with kids either going or already back to school, lifeguards finishing a summer job, final picnics planned it means it's time in the Chicago style steppers community to do what they have always done. Dance!
Part of what has become a bit of a tradition over this holiday is the annual steppers party in Atlanta which this year is themed with a "going green" twist. Also this year Terrance Pratt from Chistepper.Com is holding his Peoples Choice ceremony during the Sunday event from Sara Teagle's event packed weekend lineup. I'm not going to run down all of the events because they're all listed on the perpetual events calendar.
The Poll
This weeks WLSC poll has stirred up some interest and if it was an political election I think there would be shouts for a recount and it would all end up in a runoff because if the results (so far) were any closer it would be a virtual tie. The question has to do with how you look at the "Out of Town Category" in the World's Largest. You have two choices; either you feel there should be an "Out of Town Category" for people from cities other than Chicago or you think they should let people from other cities compete within existing categories.

Where to go
In the issue on Sunday, I did a review of the Paradise Productions monthly party at Mr. G's and to be fair I did omit one thing I heard from many of the people there. The first hour it was really comfortable in the place but after that so many people came in and packed the place it got really hot in there... extremely uncomfortable.
I've talked to Rose about that particular problem in the past and again just recently (after this party) and she doesn't really know of a hall big enough to handle her crowd. The fact is most of the places steppers use for events are smaller than Mr. G's (when both sides are open) and she doesn't want to use a place that's inconvenient for her clientele either. Last year she used the Lexington House for her birthday and the place was packed so we know it has to be bigger than the Lex.
It's a good problem for a Chicago style steppers promoter to have when you out grow the place you've been having your party but something needs to be done.
If you were in charge of finding a new place for some of her monthly events, where would you suggest as a venue?
Over the holiday
I won't be posting any suggested classes starting tomorrow until after the holiday weekend is over. Many of the instructors are suspending their classes for the holiday and I wouldn't want to suggest a class where there is none because of the holiday.  (poll below)
NCSSD 2011
When asked if there will be a 2011 National Chicago Style Steppers Day Event, The short answer is yes it will be an annual event held on the weekend of the second Saturday in August. Overall, the event was a smashing success in that we managed to pull the whole thing off. Once we've had some time to digest and machinate what happened over the weekend we will have a teleconference (probably after the WLSC) to discuss what went right and what went wrong and to entertain ideas for next year.
