The National Chicago Style Steppers Day event is for all steppers in all groups who dance Chicago style stepping and will be celebrated in both established events and events created just for the celebration in major cities across the nation on the same day as a grand display of unity for the dance.
The National Chicago Style Steppers Day event will be the first and largest coordinated national event for the Chicago style steppers community ever attempted to celebrate the dance in unity.
As the Chicago Style Steppers Day event takes form in the 21 cities that have now signed on across the country I thought it would be a good idea to share information about Chicago style stepping in each city and their involvement in the event as told by the people putting together the event in their respective cities. Today I will highlight Toledo as told by Perry Chillus.

Toledo has two stepping groups right now they are, United Ladies of Step & United We Step, both were established in August 2006. We got the idea from one of Chicago's own Lorinza Thomas a.k.a (Tuttle) she use to come here and work with us on weekends. She was great with us. I wish we knew where she was now so we could thank her personally. We have learned from some of the best instructors out there like; Larry Collins & Kamal Smith of Steady Steppers, Tykmyn, James Pacley, Donnie Davis, Cynthia Shanks & Stan Bailey of Chicago style steppers LLP, Dre & Company, KP, and yes once again (Tuttle). We spent hours watching video after video of Chicago style steppin.
My name is Perry Chillus one of the instructors in the group & the president of United We Step. Keesha Waters is also an instructor & the president of the Ladies of Step. Most of our group members have been steppin since 2006, the ladies have their annual event called Denim & Diamonds. This year it will be held on May 7-9th 2010. The gentlemen's group annual party is Steppin n the Heat White Party, held on the 26th of June this year. We have classes three days a week, and we do private & group lessons also. Keesha & I will be teaching a six week mentoring program for sixth graders this March & April, for their self expression after school program teaching them how to step as well as teaching them the history of stepping, how to communicate with each other, respect one another as men and women, and teach them social skills they will use in every day life. We look forward to celebrating this day of steppin with all the other cites around the country.

"We are planning to have a day cook-out from 10:00am till 4:00pm location is T.B.A. then that night our celebration will be held at the Conn-Wiesenberger American Legion at 2020 W. Alexis Rd, Toledo, OH 43613 from 8:00pm - till 1:00am Doors Open @ 7:OOpm."
We will share more information about each participating city, their organizations and their involvement in the event over the next weeks and months.
