2010 is turning into a blockbuster year (and the year is only two months old) the majority of what I've heard and seen to this point has been extremely positive and seems to be the result of setting the beam higher than it ever was before.
When I hear that the GDI Heritage ball weekend had between 2000 and 2500 attendees in what many are calling the best, most well organized event ever. (I don't have the actual numbers although I did tell Donald Blount weeks before the event that he would have a great turnout because I had an unprecedented number of people asking if I was going).

I also heard the MLK Dream weekend in Los Angeles was a success in January this year too as they attempt to overcome the rancor created by schisms created over the years.
There are those who are in the background trying to turn back the hands of time because they have grudges to settle or they just don't like some promoter or instructor.
It reminds me of a statement made by an expert that was on the Today show talking about Tiger Woods family situation. When he was asked if society should forgive Woods, the reply was, the man is human like the rest of us and asked for forgiveness. If society can't forgive a person for having human frailties, there is something wrong with society.
I understand if someone is unable to create a quality event or is unable to teach there is plenty of reason not to attend.
At the same time there's no reason I can think not to embrace them as fellow steppers who have the dance in common with us all. Being exclusionary should never be a part of the Chicago style steppers culture. Once it is there is something fundamentally wrong with the culture and it would be time to take a step back for some serious self-reflection.
There are several contests coming up over the next few weeks beside the already running Steppin Idol contest. One in Gary, IN and Decatur GA. I'll pull together the details and post the information on the events calendar.
