Today's Steppers Beat column is sponsored by: Steppers West Associates "A Memorial Day Weekend Jam" starting May 28, 2010 through May 31, 2010 at The Plaza Hotel and Casino One Main St., in Las Vegas, NV, 89101. They are offering a 4 Day Package Deal for $80!
As you'll remember, a couple of days ago I made the suggestion Chicago style steppers should do something relevant in response to the earthquake disaster in Haiti. I've had several conversations both in person and via email with a few people on the subject.
I'm going to give credit where credit is due for what I think is a great idea that was floated by Patrick and Rose Moore of the Smooth Steppers of Memphis. The Smooth Steppers of Memphis is challenging each stepping organization around the country to donate a $100.00 to support the Haiti relief fund.
In a meeting last night with Monique Salter of Step and Think Pink BCA Organization the subject came up and she was immediately onboard and met the challenge the Smooth Steppers of Memphis issued by stating that her organization will make a $100 donation and issues the same challenge to the other organizations within the Chicago style steppers community.

When asked about what legitimate organization we should make donations to I suggested the International Red Cross.
I also suggested each steppers organization in every one the cities in the country should talk to each other about coming together and hold a very public fundraising steppers event. Not only is it the right thing to do, but it can give the public a little glimpse into the kind of people who are Chicago style steppers.
Inviting a representative from the Red Cross to each of the affairs to publically hand over the proceeds should give the whole process the necessary transparency to allay any fears of scams in any form.
In Chicago there are around 70 steppers organizations and there are around 130 steppers organizations in other cities throughout the United States.
Wouldn't it be great if we could get donations nationally over $100,000.00? Imagine that; Chicago style steppers making an impact in a big way! There you have it a $100,000 National Challenge.
The challenge is out there, the benefit of making a difference is obvious and the resulting feeling of contributing to an urgent cause is priceless.
