From July 31st through August 2nd the New York Steppers are putting on the Big City Steppin' Weekend which includes a set in Harlem (Nora Neema Townhouse), workshops on 8th Avenue (Ripley-Grier Studios), Steppin in Central Park (Summit Rock), a set at Il Campanello, an a Brunch (location TBD). They've put together a reasonable hotel package (For NYC) too. It's time for the Chicago style steppers community to support the effort in the "big apple" to bring the dance to the masses. There is plenty to do in New York virtually every day of the week, so the trip may be worth your time to lend your support and get in a dance or 20 or 50! The Facebook group I created, "Chicago Style Stepping" has reached 278 members which isn't bad after a week. If you haven't joined the group yet, please join... It's a public group so anyone can see it. So far most of the posts on the wall have been easily answered questions. It's too bad they only show up on the individual's walls and not in the group. Here's one I can't answer because no one has made a submission to SteppersUSA. Marsha from St. Louis asked, "My sister lives in Cedar Rapids, IA and is looking for a steppers class nearby. Does anyone know of anything?" If you know of any class in Iowa, let me know about it so I can give them some exposure. For the most part, many instructors don't update their information and loose business as a result. I've come to some realizations about Facebook and will share them over the weekend starting with tomorrow's column.
