I get a lot of information from the web and newsletters, because for some reason people aren't telling me so I can pass it on to you. One such piece of information comes from an interview by Denise Barrow from SteppinB.com with club owner Lonzo Williams in LA… "Now that you are no longer at the Hollywood Park Casino what is your new clubs plans when it comes to Steppin?" Lonzo: The Boom Boom room and the Loft picked up where Club Hall of Fame left off. Steppin' B and I have started a new set every Saturday from 3-8pm called 50 West. The Steppin 4 a Dream committee, Steppin'B and myself will be starting a once per month Friday set at the Loft. Brian will be teaching Chicago Steppin' classes once per month before the set starts."
On July 11, 2009, there will be a
casting call for actors and actresses with experience in, singing & dancing (stepping is a must, all styles of stepping welcome) At the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church South, 6953 S. Stewart Chicago, IL. 60621. Ages 18 & up welcome. Directed by: James Mack, Choreographed by: Malik Emir-EL The play will debut February 13, 2010. Casting will start on time from 2pm – 5pm, no walk-ins after 5:15 pm NO EXCEPTIONS! Please bring a head shot, 1 minute max monologue and come dress to step. On Facebook, people are talking up the trip to Montgomery AL this weekend. Conversations like, "How many pairs of shoes should I take, changes of clothes, etc." Geno Spears no sooner finished his 2nd annual Juneteenth Ball (I spoke to DJ Mello Chris on the phone on Tuesday and he said, "it was a really nice set" by the way) and he's promoting the All-Star weekend party he is hosting in February. This is the second event I have posted for 2010. I'm glad to see people be optimistic in this economy. Right now, I'm hoping I'll be able to make it to 2010. Sorry if I lack the optimism, but the economy isn't my friend right now. Tonight, I'm planning on going to the contest at Orbies. I missed last week and according to DJ Cross, there wasn't much of a crowd, but the place was full of heavy hitters as more people qualified for the $2500 finals. Don't forget the Giovanni's contest is still there too. I haven't been invited so I'm not reporting on it. Sorry.

A Message To All Steppers (Click Here to View)

Please copy the message below and send it on to as many steppers as you can please!

This is an open message to ALL steppers. Please share it with as many people as possible.

As many of you may already know I started a new web site for the benefit of the greater steppers community. It's called History of Stepping Project. I wish to encourage you to add your knowledge to the timeline. If you know anything about stepping, please share this with the public on this site. We are looking for all information related to stepping from it's beginnings to the present. The information literally includes everything from clubs and bars which held steppers sets and parties to contests and the participants and results, to when different steppers organizations and classes started, who the instructors were and are; Musical bands, and artists, DJ's, radio and television personalities, Movies, videos, and photos… literally everything stepping.
Creating an accurate historic timeline will go a long way toward helping the community take the next step in its logical progression as it continues to grow nationwide and will become a valuable resource for all in the future.
Your input, your knowledge and your effort have made the dance what it is today. Don't you feel your place (and your organization's) in the timeline is well deserved? I do!
Please send an email to your members or readers inviting them to participate. Place a link on your web site also please. All support is appreciated!

The effort requires more than just posting the information. The need for fact checkers, people willing to do some research exists in this important ongoing project. Just a few minutes a week can make a difference.

Thank You for your time!
