Facebook
reminds me of the original Yahoo Clubs of around nine, perhaps ten years
ago. I had several tech related clubs back then with many "members"
(today they call them friends on
Facebook).
Cutting edge technology at the time as they claim it is today. The more
things change, the more they stay the same. So many of the names are
recognizable from our community, even a few from my list of those I
thought would never embrace technology! After three days, I now have 225
friends on Facebook… I've joined a few groups, and lent my support to a
cause ( "Step
& Go Green America"). It's all cool (Just like it was ten years
ago on Yahoo). Chicago style steppers do much more than dance; they put
stuff out on
Facebook!
Speaking of worthy causes, the "Step and Think Pink" newsletter went out
last night (early in the am). If you want information about what Chicago
style steppers are doing about breast cancer awareness, jump to the site
(StepandThinkPink.Org),
look at the current newsletter (the link is at the bottom of the home
page) and sign up to get your own copy in the email as it is published.
If you've seen the Friend connect bar at the bottom of the SteppersUSA
website, you will have noticed the Majestic gents reversed their age
criteria changed from 45 and over back to 40 and over. Keep an eye on
majesticgents.net and
WLSContest.com
for any more changes to the always fluid pre-contest time period. This
morning there is a really good interview with Sunshine on
Chistepper.com
that's worth a read as some of the old controversy surrounding the
firebrand promoter - instructor are addressed and should dispel many
myths. As soon as I have some final confirmation, I will be announcing
the first taping of personal recollections of Chicago style steppers
from back in the day. It's taken almost a year to get it together, but
finally it looks like it will happen next month. As long as I'm talking
about "back in the day", Lana Reid in LA has been promoting an internet
radio show called "Real Talk with Tracy" (I guess
Moe don't own
that "Real Talk" name that he's been using for over a year).

This is an open message to ALL steppers. Please share it with as many people as possible.
As many of you may already know I started a new web
site for the benefit of the greater steppers community. It's called
History of Stepping Project. I wish to encourage you to add your
knowledge to the timeline. If you know anything about stepping, please
share this with the public on this site. We are looking for all
information related to stepping from it's beginnings to the present. The
information literally includes everything from clubs and bars which held
steppers sets and parties to contests and the participants and results,
to when different steppers organizations and classes started, who the
instructors were and are; Musical bands, and artists, DJ's, radio and
television personalities, Movies, videos, and photos… literally
everything stepping.
Creating an accurate historic timeline will go a long
way toward helping the community take the next step in its logical
progression as it continues to grow nationwide and will become a
valuable resource for all in the future.
Your input, your knowledge and your effort have made the dance what it
is today. Don't you feel your place (and your organization's) in the
timeline is well deserved? I do!
Please send an email to your members or readers inviting them to
participate. Place a link on your web site also please. All support is
appreciated!
The effort requires more than just posting the information. The need for fact checkers, people willing to do some research exists in this important ongoing project. Just a few minutes a week can make a difference.
Thank You for your time!
