I've
been testing another tool from Google Friend Connect. It's called the
"Event Gadget" it shows information about an event: description, time,
location, map plugger, and even a YouTube video promoting an event.
Viewers can join the event and see who else has joined the event.
Take a look for yourself. Our newsletter readers have a couple of
new features also. I'm sure you've seen the plugger of the day by now,
and I've also added "From the Bar" which will show the latest items from
the bar on the bottom of the site. Well, it's time for more
stuff from the Rumor Mill... According to published reports, the rumor
about Tee Tee dropping out of the Club D'Elegance contest are true.
Apparently the club has been dragging their feet. That makes promoting a
contest difficult and next to impossible for any promoter and cause for
speculation of the club's overall viability as well. Perhaps it's a
good thing Giovanni's Sapphire Room in Dolton is
doing Stepping again. According to
an article in the Chicago area newspapers, (The Southtown Star
newspapers) the House of Lynwood has
closed their doors. The House of Lynwood is where A True Steppers
Connection has been holding their events for quite a while now. They
have an event (Steppin in Whateva) planned for Saturday May 30th. I did
send an email with a link to the story yesterday, but as of this
writing, I haven't seen a response. Also,
according to an informed source, two groups were trying to schedule
events at The Premiere entertainment Center in Dolton, IL and were told
no because they are closing. Rikki G Productions Does a every second
Thursday set there and Black Mary The Original Olde Timer has a May 23rd
date at the Premier also (Steppin' in Military Gear). I don't know
if the current obligations will be honored.
With the economy in the shape it's in, I'm not surprised to see this and
expect to see more economic fallout as Chicago style steppers
organizations may need to scramble to find venues for their parties.
Here's a bit of good news about Chicago style stepping in an article
about stepping in Milwaukee that appeared in the Examiner back in April
which I happened upon while searching in Google.
Here's the article. We need more positive press like this. When was
the last time you asked a reporter to come to your class, set or party? A
little non-stepping news, the full video of Wanda Sykes speech at the
White House correspondents dinner was hilarious (and controversial too)
you can see the entire comic presentation here. Have something to
say, a new rumor to spread? Hit the Bar!

As many of you may already know I started a new web
site for the benefit of the greater steppers community. It's called
History of Stepping Project. I wish to encourage you to add your
knowledge to the timeline. If you know anything about stepping, please
share this with the public on this site. We are looking for all
information related to stepping from it's beginnings to the present. The
information literally includes everything from clubs and bars which held
steppers sets and parties to contests and the participants and results,
to when different steppers organizations and classes started, who the
instructors were and are; Musical bands, and artists, DJ's, radio and
television personalities, Movies, videos, and photos… literally
everything stepping.
Creating an accurate historic timeline will go a long
way toward helping the community take the next step in its logical
progression as it continues to grow nationwide and will become a
valuable resource for all in the future.
Your input, your knowledge and your effort have made the dance what it
is today. Don't you feel your place (and your organization's) in the
timeline is well deserved? I do!
Please send an email to your members or readers inviting them to
participate. Place a link on your web site also please. All support is
appreciated!
The effort requires more than just posting the information. The need for fact checkers, people willing to do some research exists in this important ongoing project. Just a few minutes a week can make a difference.
Thank You for your time!
