Yesterdays article titled, "History can repeat" did spark a
little conversation in one respect. I got an email from Dan Land (SteppersExpress.Com)
that drew some interesting and insightful conclusions I feel need to be
shared (Thanks Dan).
One point Dan made, "Now if we look at the history of steppin. The real
question is. Will many of the popular people around the steppers culture
prevail or have some of these individuals actually played themselves out
like an old steppers song that once pulled everyone to the dance floor
but now cause everyone to go sit down?"
He continues… "I also question if this chapter of steppin is over no
different then the 70's, 80's, 90's and other periods that came to past?
People are looking for more details, facts, specifics and definition
then the usual clichés, counts, beats and negativity that's been
promoted. People are finding out the history and the more they find and
uncover, they look at those who been lying to them about steppin or
holding the truth back from them with a different perspective. They look
at those who are in it for material purpose in the proper light."
The fact that others are seeing much of the same as I
am seeing gives me some amount of personal gratification.
As I mentioned in the column yesterday; "Chicago style stepping has
staying power." The dance isn't going anywhere and will have its
share of supporters no matter what happens with its popularity and
adoption.
History can't be "shaped" no matter how hard we try. If you replace
the terms old skool and new skool with the words older generation
and younger generation, we reveal the underlying truth in all things
(try telling a teenager anything). Generational change
happens, it's something we can't control like the march of time.
There are those people in the Chicago style steppers community that
seem to be trying to create a personal or professional legacy within
the dance. The key word in the sentence as I see it is trying.
Our legacy is something that happens as a result of all of our
actions in the past through to the present and how it affects those
people who follow in our footsteps in the future.
It's all about the dance and our contributions to the genre in
whatever way we make those contributions. Just doing what we are
doing will set our legacy which may or may not be one of notoriety
or fame. Some of us may just plain be forgotten in the grand scheme
of history while others may not.

There has been a lot of talk about iNVITE5 and Multi-Level
Marketing. In yesterday's conference call Royce Banks dispels those
myths as he explains the opportunity we all have to get ahead of the
curve with i5. I have a copy of the conference call below for you to
listen to. If you haven't signed up you need to get
some of this money just
click
here to get started.
The sign-up appears after a short series of slides right on the
first page.
After you have signed up:
Go to “Downloads” on the main navigation menu, and download your
customized toolbar. Now, if you have Internet Explorer, you might
not see any Ads yet. However, if you have Mozilla Firefox, you
should be able to start rating 3rd party Ads immediately, which will
pay you 3/10 cents immediately. Yes, it’s a small amount (and right
now it's training), but you get that amount for all of your friends
up to 7 levels. Once the 10 cent Ads hit next week sometime (I'll be
sure to update as we're working with the developers), your
organization will already be off and running!

Steppers History
If you or anyone you
know has any photos, footage or information about or from any

History
of Stepping Project, I'd love to add it to what we have.
It's Your History! OR If you have a personal recollection
concerning stepping or if you care to help with the in any
manner, please
Send us an email.
Please copy the message below and send
it on to as many steppers as you can please!
This is an open message to ALL
steppers. Please share it with as many people as possible.
As many of you may already know I
started a new web site for the benefit of the greater steppers
community. It's called
History
of Stepping Project. I wish to encourage you to add your
knowledge to the timeline. If you know anything about stepping,
please share this with the public on this site. We are looking
for all information related to stepping from it's beginnings to
the present. The information literally includes everything from
clubs and bars which held steppers sets and parties to contests
and the participants and results, to when different steppers
organizations and classes started, who the instructors were and
are; Musical bands, and artists, DJ's, radio and television
personalities, Movies, videos, and photos… literally everything
stepping. Creating an accurate historic timeline will go a
long way toward helping the community take the next step in its
logical progression as it continues to grow nationwide and will
become a valuable resource for all in the future. Your input,
your knowledge and your effort have made the dance what it is
today. Don't you feel your place (and your organization's) in
the timeline is well deserved? I do! Please send an email to
your members or readers inviting them to participate. Place a
link on your web site also please. All support is appreciated!
The effort requires more than just
posting the information. The need for fact checkers, people
willing to do some research exists in this important ongoing
project. Just a few minutes a week can make a difference.
