Steppers Olympics

The
2008 Olympics are History. The ceremonies were beyond impressive and the
USA fared pretty well, garnering more metals than anyone else which
really pumps up the pride. Why not?
Perhaps there should be a "Steppers Olympics". You say, "Oh yea we need
yet another Chicago big contest." Why not? It could be patterned
somewhat like the real Olympics with a parade of the cities
participating followed torch lighting, and a speech by The Steppers
Olympics Organizer... Probably no fireworks (Unless it's coincidentally
scheduled at Navy Pier when they have fireworks on some weekend evenings
in the summer.) One of the contest's they could have would a "steppers
triathlon" to decide who are the best "all around steppers in the world"
where they would have to dance Original style stepping, trio, and
Walking. There could be other variations on the same theme utilizing
other variants from within the dance to include freestyle (or whatever
is the politically correct name today for it). Scoring could be done via
computer and shown on the big screen (like they do in the Olympics).
Remember last year when they were doing team stepping? That would be a
perfect steppers Olympic Event. Think about variants from trio... how
about a quads competition. Now many people would say, "We already have
the world's Largest Steppers Contest." In response I would say, we
already have the World Series, The NBA Playoffs, The Super Bowl, etc.
but still have the Olympics. So why not both the WLSC and a
steppers Olympics?
Do you think this would be a good idea? Do you have any ideas to add to
this? How would you vision this if you were to put together a steppers

This is an open message to ALL steppers. Please share it with as many people as possible.
As many of you may already know I started a new web
site for the benefit of the greater steppers community. It's called
The History of Stepping Project. I wish to encourage you to add your
knowledge to the timeline. If you know anything about stepping, please
share this with the public on this site. We are looking for all
information related to stepping from it's beginnings to the present. The
information literally includes everything from clubs and bars which held
steppers sets and parties to contests and the participants and results,
to when different steppers organizations and classes started, who the
instructors were and are; Musical bands, and artists, DJ's, radio and
television personalities, Movies, videos, and photos… literally
everything stepping.
Creating an accurate historic timeline will go a long
way toward helping the community take the next step in its logical
progression as it continues to grow nationwide and will become a
valuable resource for all in the future.
Your input, your knowledge and your effort have made the dance what it
is today. Don't you feel your place (and your organization's) in the
timeline is well deserved? I do!

The effort requires more than just posting the information. The need for fact checkers, people willing to do some research exists in this important ongoing project. Just a few minutes a week can make a difference.
