Attitude Is Everything

I
came to the club early, I usually do that when I haven't been to a club
for a while (just to get the feel of what's happening). The last time I
was at Orbies in Hammond, IN was about 2 and 1/2 years ago with Herb
Kent and Still Bill. At the time the feeling I got in the place was like
OK, this is a club where they are trying to do some stepping in. It
really have the feel of a steppers club.
Back to last night... I sit down at the bar, and I instantly recognize
about half to the people there. So this is where all of the drinkers
from 3-G's went to (along with two of their best bartenders). The World
Wrestling (Entertainment) was on the Big Screen TV and everyone was
talking about back when it was "wrestling". I got a Pepsi, and sat back
and soaked up the atmosphere... Just like 3-G's used to be like a
few years ago. It's like a totally different club. Jimmy Jams showed up,
put some music on... almost immediately steppers started to appear and
made it to the dance floor. Everyone was truly enjoying themselves and
it showed. The people who I hardly ever see at Club D'Elegance anymore,
were there. DJ ET (Eric Taylor) came in to play for the contest. Hmmm
same DJ as at Club D. Different crowd for the most part with the
exception of the ladies from Sunshine's classes which helped to fill the
house.
The contest itself was nice, (once again reminiscent of the Millennium
Productions contests at 3-G's a few years ago) At the end of the contest
for the evening, Jimmy Jams announced that everyone who danced would be
going to the finals, making a total of 13 couples with one week of
prelims left. Overall, the club experience was great! Orbies has turned
into a real steppers club with a great crowd. Photos will be online this
evening. Thursday Night's Contest
The Club D'Elegance contest has two couples qualified for their
semi-finals, and according to what Sunshine told the crowd, they need at
the very least 4 more couples to qualify next week or Bruce Martin, the
manager at Club D'Elegance would cancel the contest. I don't care how
people feel about a club, or it's promoters, or the type of contest.
Someone should go for that money!

As many of you may already know I started a new web
site for the benefit of the greater steppers community. It's called
The History of Stepping Project. I wish to encourage you to add your
knowledge to the timeline. If you know anything about stepping, please
share this with the public on this site. We are looking for all
information related to stepping from it's beginnings to the present. The
information literally includes everything from clubs and bars which held
steppers sets and parties to contests and the participants and results,
to when different steppers organizations and classes started, who the
instructors were and are; Musical bands, and artists, DJ's, radio and
television personalities, Movies, videos, and photos… literally
everything stepping.
Creating an accurate historic timeline will go a long
way toward helping the community take the next step in its logical
progression as it continues to grow nationwide and will become a
valuable resource for all in the future.
Your input, your knowledge and your effort have made the dance what it
is today. Don't you feel your place (and your organization's) in the
timeline is well deserved? I do!
Please send an email to your members or readers inviting them to
participate. Place a link on your web site also please. All support is
appreciated!
The effort requires more than just posting the
information. The need for fact checkers, people willing to do some
research exists in this important ongoing project. Just a few minutes a
week can make a difference.
