The Steppers Beat News and Opinion

[6/10/2008 SteppersUSA News]
Steppers Entrepreneurs at Work
By Markie Bee

You've probably seen them in the clubs or on the internet, The many Printed T-Shirts extolling the virtues of Stepping in many ways and forms. While I was in Detroit this weekend, I met a couple of people who's contributions you may be wearing. The very popular T-Shirts are showing up all over the country and it's a good thing. It's just another way to promote stepping to the several areas where we generally don't seem to market to enough... Starting with the general public. The shirts are a conversation starter and we all know steppers love to talk about stepping. The I Love Steppin shirts are grabbing attention in a big way. I've seen them in Chicago and on the web in photos from Atlanta and Detroit. They are promoting stepping, not a club or a class... just stepping, Chicago Style Stepping, and that's the only agenda. The impact from these shirts can help the cause of stepping in general because of their broad appeal. The more these "tools" are seen on the streets the better chance we have of catching the public's imagination... It's one more way of "Branding" Stepping. Promoters pay attention... The general public needs to know about stepping before they can understand what your organization is for!
Another great aspect of these "walking billboards" is the great affirmation of self to and about the community. Just seeing the phrase "I Love Steppin'" does something good... gives you a good feeling about what you and those around you are doing. We don't dance not to feel good. We dance to feel good and to share that "good feeling" with others. The symbolism portrayed on the shirts is yet another expression of the feeling.

Support the History of Stepping Project

Please copy the message below and send it on to as many steppers as you can please!

This is an open message to ALL steppers. Please share it with as many people as possible.

As many of you may already know I started a new web site for the benefit of the greater steppers community. It's called The History of Stepping Project. I wish to encourage you to add your knowledge to the timeline. If you know anything about stepping, please share this with the public on this site. We are looking for all information related to stepping from it's beginnings to the present. The information literally includes everything from clubs and bars which held steppers sets and parties to contests and the participants and results, to when different steppers organizations and classes started, who the instructors were and are; Musical bands, and artists, DJ's, radio and television personalities, Movies, videos, and photos… literally everything stepping.
Creating an accurate historic timeline will go a long way toward helping the community take the next step in its logical progression as it continues to grow nationwide and will become a valuable resource for all in the future.
Your input, your knowledge and your effort have made the dance what it is today. Don't you feel your place (and your organization's) in the timeline is well deserved? I do!
Please send an email to your members or readers inviting them to participate. Place a link on your web site also please. All support is appreciated!

The effort requires more than just posting the information. The need for fact checkers, people willing to do some research exists in this important ongoing project. Just a few minutes a week can make a difference.

Thank You for your time!
