Divided they Fail or Not?

The battle lines have been drawn for a while now and just about everyone knows "irreconcilable differences" has split up what was a working model of success of what was one of the few large scale steppers events on the West Coast. There will be two large scale events to be held at the same time about a half hour apart (If the LA traffic is non-existent... Real time commutes vary widely in that city). People in Chicago make that type of a commute regularly on a weekend night. (Kinda like going from 3-G's (Club D'Elegance) to a set downtown). Of course by January 2009 gas will probably cost something like $9.00 a gallon (Bush - Chaney Profit) so the trip from the Casino to the Convention Center will end up costing more than admission to one of the events. Of course according to our current poll a 2/3rds majority of those around 600 people who responded stated they can still afford to go out or they don't care how much it cost's (Remember in LA car pooling pays!!!). The Los Angeles Dream Steppers (The original Steppin' to King's Dream Board lead by Lonzo) has launched a web site (www.steppin4adream.com) and Lana (Steppin to King's Dream) has sent a press release where the headline read, "Majestic Gents of Chicago Appointed to Serve as Advisory Board for Steppin to King's Dream 2009". Now I don't know if this means sides are being taken by the Gents, but if they are, in the end, you will be the judge and will make the decision as to which event or events to support. I really don't think the decision will be made by any particular steppers organization. Advice is cheap! I give it daily right here! (He says laughing at himself). Results, not posturing is what is needed. The very valid points "The presence of two events is not only problematic for the promoters, but for the instructors, DJs, vendors, supporters, and steppers who look forward to this event each year." were mentioned in the April 3, 2008 article on ChiSteppers.Com. There's only one Mellow Khris! Who's gonna get him? I guess he can clean up (financially) on that weekend because he can play each party on different days and you know the crowd will follow him to that event (hint to Khris Charge MORE). If there's one thing the two events should work together on is the workshops (or not). Perhaps the people who do workshops should get together and hold their collective workshops at a third location (Like Unique Maurice did this year). The vendors are the ones who must make a business decision, because they need to be at the events to make their money... perhaps they can just get Khris' schedule to follow the crowd. LA isn't Chicago so it will be interesting to watch what's going to happen in that fledgling steppers market.

As many of you may already know I started a new web
site for the benefit of the greater steppers community. It's called
The History of Stepping Project. I wish to encourage you to add your
knowledge to the timeline. If you know anything about stepping, please
share this with the public on this site. We are looking for all
information related to stepping from it's beginnings to the present. The
information literally includes everything from clubs and bars which held
steppers sets and parties to contests and the participants and results,
to when different steppers organizations and classes started, who the
instructors were and are; Musical bands, and artists, DJ's, radio and
television personalities, Movies, videos, and photos… literally
everything stepping.
Creating an accurate historic timeline will go a long
way toward helping the community take the next step in its logical
progression as it continues to grow nationwide and will become a
valuable resource for all in the future.
Your input, your knowledge and your effort have made the dance what it
is today. Don't you feel your place (and your organization's) in the
timeline is well deserved? I do!

The effort requires more than just posting the information. The need for fact checkers, people willing to do some research exists in this important ongoing project. Just a few minutes a week can make a difference.
