The Steppers Beat News and Opinion

Seismic Waves
By Markie Bee

As I was writing this article something really strange (mostly coincidental) happened we had an earthquake (5.4 magnitude) here in the Midwest.
Just like an earthquake, which slowly rolls up to it's maximum shake on the Richter scale, the interview on ChiSteppers.Com with Graelin Woodley, has shaken many accounts of the beginning of the World's Largest Steppers Contest like a building in LA during an aftershock.
Based on what I've seen in the message boards, it's all news to many of the regulars who either were apparently not aware of the different "historical perspectives" which have been put out through the years.
Two names seem to be synonymous with the birth of the WLSC (in virtually all accounts), Rodney Burke who was a Manager for Anheuser-Busch, and Merry Green who was the promotions director at WVAZ (V-103). The interview, which was masterfully put together by Terrance Pratt (Your best ever T) honed in on Graelin's unique inside perspective as a Territory Manager for Anheuser-Busch and as an avid stepper.
It looks like Graelin isn't finished with stepping contests by any means, "I have a plan that I'm currently pitching to several fortune 50 corporations." when asked about a national stepping contest. For those of you who have watched news flowing from ChiSteppers.Com, there was a story on April 4th "hinting" at another large scale contest in Chicago being put together by none other than Merry Green. Are these two "events" tied together? I don't know, time will tell can you feel the rumbling of the quake now?
Once again, kudos to Terrance Pratt and ChiSteppers.Com, for a great interview. The only type of criticism I have is I really wish these stories would come out sooner instead of being rationed out. It's news plain and simple and we'd love to get it as it breaks. I understand the need for attention to detail, but as I said, getting the news as it breaks is just as important in the genesis of transforming ChiSteppers.Com's image. I feel getting the news today will outweigh the hits (as rationed) and will generate more traffic for the stepping communities benefit.

If you or anyone you know has any photos, footage or information about or from any Steppers contests for the History of Stepping Project, I'd love to add it to what we have. It's Your History! We are looking for all information related to stepping from it's beginnings to the present. The information literally includes everything from clubs and bars which held steppers sets and parties to contests and the participants and results, to when different steppers organizations and classes started, who the instructors were and are; Musical bands, and artists, DJ's, radio and television personalities, Movies, videos, and photos… literally everything stepping.

Creating an accurate historic timeline will go a long way toward helping the community take the next step in its logical progression as it continues to grow nationwide and will become a valuable resource for all in the future.
Your input, your knowledge and your effort have made the dance what it is today. Don't you feel your place (and your organization's) in the timeline is well deserved? I do!
Please send an email to your members or readers inviting them to participate. Place a link on your web site also please. All support is appreciated!

The effort requires more than just posting the information. The need for fact checkers, people willing to do some research exists in this important ongoing project. Just a few minutes a week can make a difference.

Thank You for your time!
