think I'm kind of dangerous when I start thinking about things,
especially when I move to the realm of over thinking. Everybody does
it... I think... Perhaps not!
O.K. I'm not talking about the specific event when I say this. I'm
conceptualizing nothing more, you know, "over thinking" when I say
wouldn't it be better if it were the "World's Best" instead of the
"World's Largest"?
I know, I know, too much pressure right? Well it would be a whole lot
less pressure than if it was called the "World's Perfect"... Now that's
too much pressure. Maybe it should be called the "Just About
World's Best (In some peoples opinion)". Whenever there's an
event of a large magnitude there's always pressure to meet someone's
expectations and the real question is how far do you go to meet those
expectations. At what point should someone draw a line in the sand? I
think in business they call that line of reasoning, "acceptable
standards". When I build a web site, there are certain things a client
expects from the design. My job is to meet and hopefully exceed the
clients expectations while still maintaining the established standards
for a web site which were figured out years ago by people who (I hope)
are much wiser than I am. An important part of innovation is to "test
the norm" by trying something new to see if it will be accepted
by the client and even more importantly the clients customers. In a
nutshell, that's what web design and promotion have in common. The
design and who it appeals to as well as how well it fulfills the needs
of the audience will define success or failure. It doesn't necessarily
have to be the "World's Largest", or the "World's Best" or even the
"World's Perfect"... It just has to fulfill it's purpose. It's not going
to always exceed the clients expectations, but it may, (skill and luck
both play a part). If all the people attending the event (or visiting
the web site) aren't satisfied, or even more importantly if you feel
this way it's your responsibility to constantly innovate and try
something to "test the norm" to achieve that comfortable spot. Once you
get to that spot you play with the cards you're dealt until you feel you
need to make more change happen.
Speaking of change. Do yourself a
favor. Do your country a favor and vote early. In Chicago alone,
over 101,000 people have voted early so far... Don't
procrastinate... Participate... Today!

As many of you may already know I started a new web
site for the benefit of the greater steppers community. It's called
History of Stepping Project. I wish to encourage you to add your
knowledge to the timeline. If you know anything about stepping, please
share this with the public on this site. We are looking for all
information related to stepping from it's beginnings to the present. The
information literally includes everything from clubs and bars which held
steppers sets and parties to contests and the participants and results,
to when different steppers organizations and classes started, who the
instructors were and are; Musical bands, and artists, DJ's, radio and
television personalities, Movies, videos, and photos… literally
everything stepping.
Creating an accurate historic timeline will go a long
way toward helping the community take the next step in its logical
progression as it continues to grow nationwide and will become a
valuable resource for all in the future.
Your input, your knowledge and your effort have made the dance what it
is today. Don't you feel your place (and your organization's) in the
timeline is well deserved? I do!
Please send an email to your members or readers inviting them to
participate. Place a link on your web site also please. All support is
appreciated!
The effort requires more than just posting the
information. The need for fact checkers, people willing to do some
research exists in this important ongoing project. Just a few minutes a
week can make a difference.
