I write this column, I'm encoding the 9th Real Talk episode for the web.
It should be on line this afternoon on
www.learn2step.com. The episode
was shot last week in Ellicott City, MD during the first annual Best of
Both Worlds Dance extravaganza (www.united2dance.com)
and is titled Future Stars of Stepping, featuring four steppers who are
either on the radar or will be soon. The burning question I have after
this episode is, How many people really have "steppers names"? This
would have been Real Talk 10 but a malfunction (a bad tape)
prevented what would have been a fantastic episode shot at the viewing
party for the WLSC. We'll do that one again. Speaking of videos, I'll
have another video interview on line in the next couple of days, so stay
tuned.
Another tidbit... The feedback I've received about a "National
Chicago Style Steppers Day" has been positive. If groups come
together this can happen (so no one individual or group has to handle
the financial burdens of holding a large event). Having them on one day
can be a real display of unity, (I think everyone is waiting to see how
the Chicago convention (www.cscsteps.com)
over the Thanksgiving weekend goes). A little something else to chew on,
having regional conventions is a whole lot "greener" than a bunch of
people jumping on gas guzzling airplanes to fly across country. The same
thing can be accomplished on a regional basis using far less fuel and
money. That's being green.
If your area participates in early voting, you may want to do yourself a
favor and go and vote before election day. The lines are only going to
get longer, plus it gives you many opportunities to take one or two of
those newly registered voters to the polls so they can exercise their
constitutional right to choose the next president. As a note: While I am
writing this, Colin Powell (a republican who served as Bush's secretary
of state) just endorsed Barack Obama for the presidency.

As many of you may already know I started a new web
site for the benefit of the greater steppers community. It's called
History of Stepping Project. I wish to encourage you to add your
knowledge to the timeline. If you know anything about stepping, please
share this with the public on this site. We are looking for all
information related to stepping from it's beginnings to the present. The
information literally includes everything from clubs and bars which held
steppers sets and parties to contests and the participants and results,
to when different steppers organizations and classes started, who the
instructors were and are; Musical bands, and artists, DJ's, radio and
television personalities, Movies, videos, and photos… literally
everything stepping.
Creating an accurate historic timeline will go a long
way toward helping the community take the next step in its logical
progression as it continues to grow nationwide and will become a
valuable resource for all in the future.
Your input, your knowledge and your effort have made the dance what it
is today. Don't you feel your place (and your organization's) in the
timeline is well deserved? I do!
Please send an email to your members or readers inviting them to
participate. Place a link on your web site also please. All support is
appreciated!
The effort requires more than just posting the
information. The need for fact checkers, people willing to do some
research exists in this important ongoing project. Just a few minutes a
week can make a difference.
