Things Steppers Do
By Markie Bee

I want to thank those of you who responded to the "Dues articles". It proves to me that people are paying attention.
People take a lot of things for granted in this day and age of a larger, more national steppers community. One thing always leads to another. For example, In Chicago, what would stepping be like today without the support of (WVAZ-FM) V-103? Would there have been a World's Largest Steppers Contest for Budweiser to sponsor, and Mary Green to promote? Would the Majestic Gents be the same established steppers organization we know today? How many people would be stepping today if all of those stars didn't align perfectly at the right time?
I have no doubt that stepping would have continued in Chicago, but it would have been as it was before there was any "media exposure" for the genre. I know there probably wouldn't  be close to 150 (54 in Chicago alone) web sites dedicated to stepping listed on SteppersUSA.Com, in fact there probably wouldn't be a SteppersUSA either. How many stepping instructors would there be? Would there still be a stepping magazine? How many clubs and bars would be there today supporting stepping? As I said before there would be stepping. It's before and after everything I mentioned still all about the dance. What do you think? Let us Know Click Here
It's funny how radio news comes in multiples to the steppers community. Yesterday, I reported that LaMont Watts (www.clubsteppin.com)is now the man calling the programming shots at urban news/talk WVON-AM (1690). Today, it was revealed by (WVAZ-FM) V-103 that Doug Banks will return to Chicago radio Monday by taking Ramonski Luv & Joe Soto's afternoon drive slot and bumping the duo into the 6pm to 9pm show.

If you or anyone you know has any photos, footage or information about or from the Steppers Compete contests in 2003 for the History of Stepping Project, I'd love to add it to what we have. It's Your History!

If you have a personal recollection concerning stepping or if you care to help with the History of Stepping Project in any manner, please Send us an email.

Support the History of Stepping Project

Please copy the message below and send it on to as many steppers as you can please!

This is an open message to ALL steppers. Please share it with as many people as possible.

As many of you may already know I started a new web site for the benefit of the greater steppers community. It's called The History of Stepping Project. I wish to encourage you to add your knowledge to the timeline. If you know anything about stepping, please share this with the public on this site. We are looking for all information related to stepping from it's beginnings to the present. The information www.steppershistory.orgliterally includes everything from clubs and bars which held steppers sets and parties to contests and the participants and results, to when different steppers organizations and classes started, who the instructors were and are; Musical bands, and artists, DJ's, radio and television personalities, Movies, videos, and photos… literally everything stepping.

Creating an accurate historic timeline will go a long way toward helping the community take the next step in its logical progression as it continues to grow nationwide and will become a valuable resource for all in the future.
Your input, your knowledge and your effort have made the dance what it is today. Don't you feel your place (and your organization's) in the timeline is well deserved? I do!
Please send an email to your members or readers inviting them to participate. Place a link on your web site also please. All support is appreciated!

The effort requires more than just posting the information. The need for fact checkers, people willing to do some research exists in this important ongoing project. Just a few minutes a week can make a difference.

Thank You for your time!
