Crystal Ball

I said a few columns ago that I'd give my predictions for 2008. Well, I
really couldn't think of anything
beyond
the sun will rise in the morning creating what we call days and set in
the evening creating what we call night. I promise there will be both
days and nights in 2008. If not I'll give you all of my money the
following day.
Since I couldn't figure it out for myself, I decided to go to the local
reader, Mama Czenee for some predictions for 2008. I walked into the
darkened room and had a seat at the table when the old lady came into
the room. I was amazed when she said, "So you want to know what the
future holds for the steppers community in 2008?" I looked into her
searing black eyes, and knew that she held the secrets and was about to
share them with me. She took the cloth off of the blue crystal ball and
hovered her hands over it and a fuzzy image of dancers appeared. "I
predict... Many more people will embrace the eight count method across
the country in 2008." She said in a voice which betrayed her gypsy
background as she continued... "In 2008 a dancer will rise from the
ranks in a city other than Chicago and catch national attention. At
first Chicago dancers will not embrace this persons dance, but after
watching the near flawless execution, acceptance will come quickly after
they learn he was schooled by Tykmyn in a secret location." (I think Tyk
has a secret fortress of solitude... How did she know?)
She waved her hands over the blue orb again and said, "This year Salsa
will be OK, but drama will follow." That's a no brainer in my book,
steppers are stubborn. I've seen elements of salsa in the dance for many
years. The crystal ball darkened and Mama Czenee asked for her money. I
paid her and left. Of course, as I said in the opening, I promise there
will be both days and nights in 2008. If not I'll give you all of my
money the following day.

This is an open message to ALL steppers. Please share it with as many people as possible.
As many of you may already know I started a new web
site for the benefit of the greater steppers community. It's called
The History of Stepping Project. I wish to encourage you to add your
knowledge to the timeline. If you know anything about stepping, please
share this with the public on this site. We are looking for all
information related to stepping from it's beginnings to the present. The
information
literally includes everything from clubs and bars which held
steppers sets and parties to contests and the participants and results,
to when different steppers organizations and classes started, who the
instructors were and are; Musical bands, and artists, DJ's, radio and
television personalities, Movies, videos, and photos… literally
everything stepping.
Creating an accurate historic timeline will go a long
way toward helping the community take the next step in its logical
progression as it continues to grow nationwide and will become a
valuable resource for all in the future.
Your input, your knowledge and your effort have made the dance what it
is today. Don't you feel your place (and your organization's) in the
timeline is well deserved? I do!

The effort requires more than just posting the information. The need for fact checkers, people willing to do some research exists in this important ongoing project. Just a few minutes a week can make a difference.
